More EMS help requested at big public events in Allentown

An unexpected death at a soccer event on Sunday in Allentown has some community leaders saying something needs to be done to ensure the safety of those who attend any large public event in the city.
Allentown resident, Luis Romero, says he was refereeing a game on Sunday at Fountain Park, when 42-year-old Luis Carlos Torres suddenly collapsed after playing.
"There was a lot of commotion when he fainted. There were many people surrounding him and he didn't receive enough first aid," said Romero.
City officials say first responders arrived within 10 minutes, and transported Torres to the hospital, but he didn't make it.
Friends say Torres died due to a blood clot that had traveled to his heart.
City councilwoman and CPR instructor Cynthia Mota, says she plans to propose legislation that would place a first aid tent at sporting, civic and social events with large crowds.
"I really believe we should do something about this. It should be a must that we have a first aid tent whenever we have such a big event; it should be the law," said Mota.
Frank Ortiz, coach for the Allentown youth soccer club, thinks the tent is an excellent idea, but adds it never hurts for others to get certified.
“I think it's very important to at least have some kind of knowledge or some kind of skills or have someone nearby to be ready in case there is an emergency,” Ortiz said.
What constitutes a large crowd and who would pay for the first aid tents remains to be seen.
However councilwoman Mota says she plans to introduce legislation as soon as possible.
