A Berks County mother is behind bars after authorities say she attacked a police officer while he was trying to save her infant daughter.
Witnesses say, Stephanie Lynn Ermold, was behaving erratically, and allegedly used an America flag to break the glass to the front door of a home located at 17 N. Church Street in Cumru Township, Sunday.
The homeowner said that Ermold was complaining that a tenant in the building owed her money.
"She kept repeating, out on the street, that she was ripped off for $750," said Kyle Howell, witness.
Court documents indicate that while Ermold was in the area, she was "highly intoxicated," and had her eight-month old daughter in a stroller.
Court documents also detail that when a police officer tried to stop Ermold from getting away, that's when she allegedly let go of the stroller, and it started to roll down the steep street toward an intersection.
The officer quickly grabbed the stroller, but at the same time, court documents indicate Ermold started hitting the officer.
"And she was giving him a run for his money," Howell said, "and he's not a small officer, and he's very well, thoroughly trained."
Ermold was finally taken into custody and later taken to The Reading Hospital. There, she allegedly attacked a nurse by grabbing her by the neck and scratching her in the face.
Court documents indicate it took several security guards to subdue her.
"It was very, very disturbing," Howell said. "Very disturbing that she acted the way she acted."
Ermold is behind bars on $25,000 bail.
