READING, Pa. -

An Easton native will soon step behind the microphone as the new radio voice of the Reading Fightin Phils.

The Philadelphia Phillies double-A affiliate has hired Michael Ventola to be its play-by-play broadcaster during the 2014 season.

"The Fightins are thrilled to have Mike join the club this season," said Scott Hunsicker, the team's general manager. "Mike's energy and experience broadcasting on the East Coast will make him a great fit with our front office and team."

Ventola, 25, is no stranger to Baseballtown. Prior to spending the past two seasons as the director of broadcasting and media relations for the Southern Illinois Miners of the independent Frontier League, Ventola worked in Reading as a media relations assistant during the 2010 season.

"I am thrilled to be joining a well-respected organization here in Reading," said Ventola. "I hope to convey my excitement and love for this great game with each and every sentence I broadcast to this great fan base."

Ventola worked the 2011 baseball season as a broadcast assistant with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Phillies triple-A affiliate.

Ventola also serves as the play-by-play voice for both Wagner College and the New Jersey Institute of Technology women's basketball teams.

All 142 Fightin Phils' games, along with the annual 222 Showcase exhibition game against the IronPigs on April 1, can be heard live on 1340 WRAW-AM.

The Fightins will officially open the season against the Portland Sea Dogs at FirstEnergy Stadium on April 3 at 7:05 p.m.
