Police say more than $1 million worth of stolen semi-trailers were converted to scrap metal at Fatzin Recycling in Northampton County. The trailers were then sold as scrap metal, according to police.

A Northampton County man and New Jersey man have been arrested for allegedly stealing and scrapping more then $1 million dollars worth of semi-trailers.

On Saturday, 37-year-old Jason Smith surrendered three days after authorities issued a warrant for his arrest. The other suspect, 38-year-old Christopher Warnicke of Warren, New Jersey, was taken into custody July 31, police said.

Investigators say from April 2012 until July of this year Smith stole 31 trailers from the company he worked for, W.W. Transport,  and sold the aluminum as scrap metal.

Police say the trailers were converted into scrap metal at the Washington Township-based Fatzin Recycling, where Warnicke serves as president.

Police say the trailers were stolen at ConAgra Mills in Lower Mount Bethel Township and Inter-Coastal Trucking in Upper Mount Bethel Township.

Both suspects were committed to Northampton County Prison.
