Memorial service set for Bill Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. -

A memorial service has been scheduled for Former Pennsylvania Governor William Scranton  in the northeastern Pennsylvania city named after his family.

The service will be held starting at 10:30 a.m. on August 14 at the Covenant Presbyterian Church on Madison Avenue in Scranton.

It will be open to the public.

Governor Corbett has ordered all flags in the state to fly at half staff until August 15th to honor Scranton.

Scranton, a former presidential candidate and ambassador to the United Nations, died Sunday in California. He was 96.

Scranton, a Republican, was elected to Congress in 1960. He served one term before he was elected as Pennsylvania's 38th governor in 1962. He lost the GOP presidential nomination in 1964 as a liberal alternative to conservative Arizona Sen. Barry Goldwater.
