A man accused of embezzling thousands from a rescue organization posted bail in court Wednesday morning.

EASTON, Pa. -

A man accused of embezzling nearly $30,000 from a rescue organization posted bail in court Wednesday morning.

Police said 52-year-old Marvin McCammon, of Wind Gap, Northampton Co. took $29,825 from Pa. Water Rescue at 444 N. 13th St. in Easton.

McCammon turned himself in to authorities Wednesday morning and posted $15,000 bail, officials said.

Officials said the investigation started in August of last year.

McCammon is the husband of former firefighter Jaqueline Lilley-McCammon, who was the city's first female firefighter and rose to the level of assistant chief.

She was nominated in December by Bethlehem Mayor Robert Donchez to become the city's first female fire chief.

She withdrew her name for consideration 'for personal reasons' and announced her retirement before she could be confirmed by city council.

McCammon's attorney, Gary Asteak confirmed the alleged embezzlement was the reason she withdrew from the fire chief nomination.

Astek told 69News she had no idea what her husband was doing, and she took a polygraph test to confirm that.

Marvin McCammon is charged with theft by deception, theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received and receiving stolen property.

His preliminary hearing is set for April 9 at 9 a.m.
