A suspect has been apprehended in the shooting of a man in Reading.
Kingland Barney, 20, of Reading, was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with a shooting late Wednesday night.
The gunfire erupted around 11:55 p.m. in the 1000 block of Greenwich Street in Reading.
"I heard three gunshots like 'pow, pow, pow,'" said Lopez, who added the sound ricocheted up and down the block.
According to police, Barney walked past the house, looked through the window and fired three rounds at close range. Evidence markers showed where the bullet holes entered the window, and a 21-year-old man inside was shot in the head.
"I think that's a shame, I think that's really bad, and whoever did that needs to go to jail real bad," said Lopez.
"I lived here for 17 years of my life and nothing like this ever happened," said Vanessa, who lives on the block.
Police said the home was targeted and the bullets narrowly missed three other adults inside. The crime scene unit was parked on the block for hours as investigators interviewed residents and canvassed the block for leads. Neighbors didn't know who lived inside the home, but said they just moved in.
"Everybody here pretty much gets along with each other. We all know each other. Most of us know each other by name," said Vanessa.
Barney was apprehended shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of Pear Street.
Investigators are trying to uncover a motive and if the two men knew each other.
The victim, whose name hasn't been released, suffered life-threatening injuries. Police had no information about his condition.
Police said they don't believe anyone else was involved but they are hoping surveillance video will help.
Barney was charged with criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913. A cash reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
