BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A man got burned by the law after he was discovered stealing $12,000 worth of butane lighters by his employer, officials said.

Robert Torres was seen placing a cardboard shipping box with 120 Bugatti B-1 Torch Lighters in an unused locker at the Cigars International warehouse at 911 Spillman Dr., Bethlehem, at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, officials said.

Facilities manager Michael Schenk was hiding inside the warehouse when he saw Torres take the box from a pallet and place it in the locker nearby, officials said.

Each lighter is valued at $100, officials said.

Torres, 51, of 85 West Ettwein St., Bethlehem, was arraigned on charges of theft and receiving stolen property and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $40,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. May 15.
