Man found with drugs in hidden compartment of car, police say

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A driver who was found with marijuana in the front seat of his car after being stopped by police got into even more trouble when 15 pills were discovered in a hidden compartment of the vehicle, officials said.

Ian A. Chavez was stopped by police in the 900 block of Radclyffe Street in Bethlehem around 12:30 p.m. Sunday when they saw the marijuana, officials said.

Chavez also had $730 in cash and two cell phones on him when he was taken into custody, officials said.

A white plastic bag with 14 blue oxycodone pills marked 224 and one white Percocet marked 512 was found in a hidden trap in the rear driver side seat when Chavez's black 2004 Honda Accord was searched, officials said.

Chavez, 28,of 1215 East 3rd St., Bethlehem, was arraigned on drug possession charges and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $3,500 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. Dec. 16.
