BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A man denied hitting his girlfriend just before police found her inside their home with a shiner, officials said.

Nakhiem N. Battle bruised his girlfriend's right eye when he smacked her in the face during an argument in their home in the 700 block of East Fifth Street in Bethlehem at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, officials said.

Battle claimed the argument hadn't turned physical when he was stopped by police as he was leaving the home, officials said.

The woman told police she and Battle have been in a relationship for a year and that they have a 4-month-old child together, officials said.

Battle, 24, was arraigned on charges of assault and harassment and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $10,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. June 28.
