Man asked woman how she wanted to die while beating her, police say
A man who was beating up his girlfriend took her into the kitchen, pointed to some knives and asked how she wanted to die, officials said.
David K. Shahadi Jr. attacked his girlfriend in his home in the 400 block of Old Forge Drive in Bath, Northampton Co., around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.
Court papers do not say why Shahadi assaulted the woman.
Shahadi first grabbed her by the neck, choked her and hit her on the head, and then grabbed her by the arm and pushed her into the kitchen, where he threatened her by pointing to a set of knives, officials said.
Shahadi also straddled his girlfriend while she was on a couch, and punched a hole in the wall when he swung at her with his fist and missed, officials added.
The woman told police her 1-year-old child was in the home at the time of the incident and escaped to a neighbor's house, officials noted.
A neighbor took Shahadi out of the house to cool down, and while police were interviewing Shahadi's girlfriend, they noticed him sitting in the passenger's front seat in a car down the street from his home, officials said.
When police took Shahadi into custody, they found a plastic baggie with 7 grams of marijuana on the suspect, they said.
Shahadi, 38, was arraigned on charges of assault, harassment and drug possession and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $15,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Nov. 13.
