Police make arrest in deadly stabbing case

WASHINGTON, NJ -

Police have cracked the case of a deadly stabbing in Washington, New Jersey and have made an arrest.

Police say an altercation between two men ended in bloodshed Tuesday night.

The call to 911 was received just after 6:15 p.m.

Police found blood on the porch, blood on the walkway of the home and a man bleeding on the ground at 276 East Washington Avenue.

"It appears there was an altercation between the victim and this gentleman, earlier in the day whether it be an argument or what not," said Warren County Prosecutor, Richard Burke.

Investigators say that argument led to the victim being stabbed multiple times.

He later died at St. Luke's Hospital's Warren Campus.

Police took 26-year-old Daniel Lawrence into custody at the scene.

"He was actually transported from the scene as a witness/person of interest," added Washington Township police chief James McDonald. "So it was immediate that he was taken into custody."

After further investigation and interviews, Daniel Lawrence went from being a person of interest to a prime suspect.

"He is charged with one count of murder, one count of possession of weapon for unlawful purpose, and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon," said Burke.

Burke says Lawrence lives at the home where the stabbing took place.

Investigators say they've been to the home before.

"Drug related, domestic," said McDonald. "We were familiar with the people that lived there."

Daniel Lawrence is currently in the Warren County Correctional Center with bail set at $1 million.

Officials are still not identifying the victim because they're trying to notify the next of kin.
