Mayor John Callahan's plan to convince state officials to give one of two City Revitalization and Improvement Zone designations to Bethlehem includes major projects in almost every part of town.
The following is a list of the projects:
Martin Tower: Developers are proposing a $175 million project for Lehigh Valley's biggest and largest building.
Bethlehem Steel's Machine Shop No. 2: The Sands Bethlehem is proposing a major retail and hospitality expansion to be built in two phases. The first includes a nationally known retailer, which Callahan revealed Monday will be Bass Pro, which sells hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor recreation gear. The second will focus on expanding retail businesses and developing residential facilties.
The Bethlehem Commerce Center: A new industrial flex space project in Lehigh Valley Industrial Park VII, part of the 1,600-acre former Bethlehem Steel tract, will accommodate pharmaceutical firms, technology companies and food processors
Majestic Realty-owned land adjacent to LVIP VII: A data and technology center is being developed by the Southern California-based company, which last year built an 800,000-square-foot Crayola distribution center in Bethlehem, its first-ever project in the city.
The Walnut Street Parking Garage: Additional floors are planned to relieve what Callahan calls the most congested area of Bethlehem.
Vacant lots to the east of the Hill-to-Hill Bridge along Route 378 and the southern end of the Fahy Bridge. A mixed use development of commercial and office space is planned for the former, a retail, office and residential uses for the latter. The Fahy Bridge area project includes maintaining the facade of the former First Presbyterian Church along West 4th Street.
Three lots along East 3rd Street to be known as BethWorks Renovations: The four-story mixed use development is intended to bring retail, office and residential space to the corridor.
A mixed use medical and retail development along Eighth Avenue.
