LOWER SAUCON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -

Lower Saucon Township police have nabbed two men suspected of stealing from several area Giant Food Stores.

Police captured them as they were driving north on Route 412 last Tuesday after they left the Giant at 1880 Leithsville Road, just south of Hellertown.

Arrested were Filipo Maldonado of the 200 block of 5th Street in Bethlehem and Gary Ramunni of the 300 block of Lachenour Road in Easton.

Township police had been investigating retail thefts of razor blades and white strips that occurred on June 24 and June 27 at that Giant. They had surveillance photos of a suspect and a vehicle involved.

Before 10 a.m. Tuesday, the store's loss prevention personnel  advised police that it had been hit again and that the suspects headed north on Route 412 when they left the store.

After police stopped the car, the suspects were identified by the store's personnel.

They said Maldonado stole the items from the store and Ramunni was the driver of the vehicle.

Police learned the same suspects had committed retail thefts at Giants in Bethlehem and Bethlehem Township.

Maldonado initially provided police with false identification but police found his driver's license in the same container as the drug paraphernalia he threw out of the vehicle when stopped.

Police learned Maldonado had warrants from Bethlehem and the Berks County sheriff's department.

He was charged with giving false identification to police, possession of drug paraphernalia, retail theft and conspiracy.

Maldonado was committed to Northampton County Prison, with bail set at 10 percent of $25,000.

Ramunni was charged with conspiracy and driving under suspension.

After being arraigned, he was released under $10,000 bail.
