WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. -

The Golden Corral restaurant in Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co., took part in its first 'Thank You' dinner Monday night, a nationwide annual event done by the chain in which veterans are treated to a free meal.

"This is our biggest day. We're not worried about sales today, we're worried about service," said partner/owner Hiren Patel.

Patel says he was pleased with the turnout with a line of diners stretching out the door the entire duration of the offer, which took place from 4-9 p.m.

“A lot of veterans, WWII, Vietnam, Korean War, I'm quite sure they're happy to get this free meal today,” said Marine Corps veteran John Washington Dukes Jr.

Nationwide, the chain's 12th annual 'Thank You' dinner served around 375,000 veterans.

Patel says he estimates close to 3,000 were served at the Whitehall location.
