The royal baby wasn’t the only boy born on Monday, July 23, 2013.
Jazmine Gonzalez and Derek Bendrick welcomed their son Silas Bendrick into the world on Monday at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest.
“It’s pretty exciting,” said Jazmine Gonzalez. “While I was in labor, [Derek] actually got an alert on his phone and showed me. We found out we were in labor at the same time.”
Silas Bendrick was born at 5:52 a.m. on the same day as the royal baby and weighed 8 lbs 4oz. The royal baby was born at 4:24 p.m. and weighed 8 lbs 6oz.
Family and friends of the local couple had told them they would end up having their baby the same day as Prince William and Duchess Kate, but they didn’t believe them until it actually happened.
Bendrick and Gonzalez were not worried whether or not their baby would be born the same day as the royal couple’s; they just wanted him to be healthy.
One thing the couple is happy not to share with William and Kate is the amount of attention their newborn is getting.
“We’re just happy, though, that there’s not a thousand people outside the door,” said Derek Bendrick.
Since the name of the royal baby has yet to be revealed, there is still a chance the two babies will share something else.
