Life Lessons Weight loss

FOUNTAIN HILL, Pa. -

Lots of folks make New Year's resolutions to shed a few pounds but what's the secret to weight loss?

A Lehigh County man says he lost 150 pounds in the last year by making a few simple changes.

Todd Bozes of Fountain Hill man says his effort began when his wife bought a new scale and when Todd stepped on, he was shocked to see 400 pounds.

" I knew I was bigger than I had ever been but seeing that number, that was the trigger I needed to actually get up and take action," says Todd.

Todd's action plan includes drinking water instead of soda, no more fast food, no snacks past 7 in the evening and he walks two or three miles a day.

Todd says he went from 401 pounds to 250 pounds by making better food choices and walking for exercise.

He says, "No surgery, no gym, no weights, no pills or supplements, no expensive boxed food. The key is to start slow and continue to increase distance and/or time as your body adjusts. I started by walking 10 minutes a day because that was all I could do. Now I am walking 40-50 minutes a day on average or about 2-3 miles."

Todd is a typical busy husband and father. He has two small children, manages a Goodwill Store, and writes a blog about his weight loss called thesecondhundred.wordpress.com.

"It is a story still being written, as I still want to lose 60 more pounds, but I hope to motivate and inspire people by letting them know they can do it. It isn't easy and there is no magic way to lose weight. You have to be committed to putting the work in, but not doing so much at the beginning that you get discouraged and quit."

His new attitude has rubbed off on his wife Beth who has lost 50 pounds.

"There's not a single thing that I've completely cut out of my diet but I try to budget those things in once in awhile either as a reward or a splurge day or something like that," Todd explains.

After losing so much weight, Todd says he has gained a few things for his family.

"Hopefully the message that gets sent to them from that is that I want to be around for a really long time and we're not guaranteed tomorrow but I want to do what's in my control to be the best husband and father that I can be."

Todd is hoping by telling his story, he can be a mentor and a teacher to others who want to lose weight.
