A woman has been charged with stealing hundreds of dollars in merchandise from a pet store, some of which was found hidden in her Mercedes Benz.
Roseanne Marie Simeone had six stolen bags of dog treats worth $58.44 in her purse when she was stopped from leaving the Pet Smart store at 3794 Easton Nazareth Highway, Lower Nazareth Township, Northampton County, at 3:15 p.m. Friday, officials said.
Police also found 37 other Pet Smart items worth $727.71 in her black 2004 Mercedes-Benz C320.
Store security first spotted Simeone around 1:50 p.m. as she left the store after hiding several boxes of Bio Spot Flea and Tick control products in a flowered handbag with brown handles over which she had draped a black sweater, officials said.
After Simone made several similar trips, a store security official looked inside Simone's car and saw a large bulge underneath a red blanket on the passenger's side.
Simone took the dog treats after she re-entered the store at 2:30 p.m., officials said. When she was searched, she had a wallet with credit cards and cash.
Simone, 26, of 773 Minsi Trail East, Long Pond, Monroe County, was arraigned on a retail theft charge and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. Nov. 15.
