Easton officials are working to make the city a "foodie" destination.

EASTON, Pa. -

Easton officials are working to make the city a "foodie" destination.

Mayor Sal Panto announced Tuesday that the Greater Easton Development Partnership has purchased the old Weller Health Education Center building on Northampton Street.

The space will be used for a year-round, indoor public food market that will offer healthy, locally produced food items.

Organizers likened the market to the Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia.

"They'llĀ  have other options besides just shopping. You can actually dine in, take out. There will be some pre-prepared goods as well as grocery options," said Gretchen Longenbach, Greater Easton Development Partnership.

The Winter Farmers Market will occupy the building starting in November, and the permanent market will open sometime next year.
