Upper Macungie Township Supervisors have appointed the township's first manager in response to the township's fast-paced growth.

At a 9 a.m. Friday meeting, the three supervisors appointed Daniel P. Olpere, a municipal consultant who served Montgomery Township for twenty years in various positions, to the new township manager position.

Prior to Friday, the township was run by a board of three supervisors and Kathy Rader, the secretary for the board, says "it's time for a manager."

The need for a manager stems from Upper Macungie's growing size.

The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors says that Upper Macungie is the fastest growing municipality in the state. They currently have 22,000 residents.

Rader says the supervisors have been looking for a manager since January.

They went through 33 applicants and the suggestions of a search committee compiled of residents of the township.

Olpere has a B.S. in community development and an M.P.A in public administration from Penn State.

He is married with three children and lives in Montgomeryville.

Olpere's salary as township manager will be $115,000.
