Two men were caught stealing cheeses from a supermarket, and both are facing a felony charge because it's the third time they have been caught shoplifting, officials said.
John D. Bertha and Christopher T. Savarino tried to walk out of the Redner's market at 3745 Nicholas St., Palmer Township, Northampton Co., around 7:25 p.m. Monday with $52.34 worth of cheeses hidden in their clothing, officials said.
Bertha had $22.78 in stolen cheeses and Savarino $29.56, officials noted.
Bertha, 45, who lives at the same address as Savarino, 845 Williams St., Easton, has twice been convicted of shoplifting -- in Pohatcong Township, Warren Co., N.J., on Sept. 15, 2005, and in Galveston,Texas, on April 8, 2010.
Savarino, 46, also has two shoplifting convictions -- on Feb. 8 and Nov. 19, 2010, both in Northampton County.
For Monday's incident, both Bertha and Savarino were arraigned on charges of felony retail theft and criminal conspiracy and committed to the Northampton County Prison, according to court documents.
Bertha's bail was set at $20,000 and Savarino's at $10,000, court papers show.
A preliminary hearing is set for Savarino at 10 a.m. Sept. 19 and for Bertha at 11 a.m. Sept. 19.
