The Upper Milford Township's Public Works Department remains without a director after the Board of Supervisors took no action to hire a replacement following a 20-minute executive session on personnel issues Thursday night.
Upper Milford Supervisors terminated former public works head Steven Ackerman Jan. 16 by a 2-1 vote, leaving foreman Robert Schmetzle, Jr., and Township Manager Dan DeLong at the helm.
Supervisors declined to comment about Ackerman's firing or their timetable for hiring a replacement.
"Legally, we can't have a comment. It's a personnel matter," said supervisor George DeVault.
DeVault, along with supervisor Robert Sentener, voted to terminate Ackerman following a 70-minute executive session during the Jan. 16 supervisors meeting.
Daniel Mohr cast a dissenting vote.
Ackerman, who earned $52,000 per year, worked for the township since Sept., 2009.
DeLong said the township is planning to move forward with a reorganization of the public works department.
"It's too much for one person to handle, so we're going to do something," he said.
DeLong said, since Jan. 1, the township has utilized 460 tons of salt and 370 tons of anti-skid during 17 different snow removal events.
DeLong said the township has recently received salt deliveries and has enough product on hand to last the remainder of the winter.
In other business, supervisors agreed to meet with the township's Recreation Committee concerning the planning and financing of paved walking trails at Lenape Park.
The park is located at 6102 King's Hwy S. in the township.
