ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Lehigh County Commissioner Scott Ott will be continuing his campaign to serve as the next Lehigh County Executive.

He defeated former county Commissioner Dean Browning for the Republican Party's nomination for county executive Tuesday night.

Ott and Browning debated tax rates during the campaign. Ott accused Browning of raising taxes in 2010, but Browning pointed out that Ott has not rolled taxes back that far. Ott has cut tax rates for Lehigh County, but those rates have not dropped to what they were prior to Browning's tax hike.

Ott ran for county executive in 2009, but he lost by fewer than 1,000 votes.

Ott will run in the general election against Democrat Thomas Muller, the county’s acting executive, to determine who will be the next county executive in 2014.
