Generic: lawn chair saving shoveled parking spot
WILSON, Pa -

The days of Wilson residents using lawn chairs or other objects to save shoveled-out parking spaces have come to an end.

Borough council voted 5-2 Monday night for a resolution that authorizes Wilson's public works department to begin collecting any chairs, garbage cans, benches or other items residents have been using as parking placeholders.

The collection is expected to begin Tuesday. Residents can pick up their confiscated items at Meuser Park.

Council approved the resolution after Councilman Russ Lipari expressed frustration over the parking situation in Wilson after last week's snow and ice storms.

"This is the first day in five days I could park in front of my house," he said.

The borough authorized a similar chair collection in the 1990s, and Lipari said that was enough to convince residents to stop trying to save parking spaces, at least for a few years.

In a related matter, council is considering an update to a 1964 ordinance that fines people for throwing snow or other trash into the street. The updated ordinance would fine violators up to $100, and could potentially send them to jail for days if they do not pay.
