The Saucon Valley School District Board of Directors has named a finalist candidate to fill the superintendent post.

Dr. Monica McHale-Small is the superintendent finalist following a three-month search led by Dr. Charlene M. Brennan, executive director of the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20.

McHale-Small is currently the assistant superintendent for the Bensalem Township School District.

A news release from the Saucon Vally School District states, "Dr. McHale-Small is a motivated educator with vision and 10 years progressive experience in central office administration. She has expertise in pupil services and special education, as well as curriculum development, supervision, and instructional programs. Dr. McHale-Small has presented at numerous state and national conferences as an invited speaker on topics including early literacy development, learning disabilities identification and addressing racial and economic achievement gaps."

The next step in the superintendent search process involves a visit by McHale-Small to the Saucon Valley schools and community. In addition, the board and its solicitor will work on a formal contract agreement with McHale-Small.

McHale-Small is from Coatesville. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Cabrini College and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Education. In 1995 she earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education from the University of Pennsylvania.

McHale-Small will succeed Dr. Sandra Fellin, who has been Superintendent of Schools for the Saucon Valley School District for 10 years and is retiring on Aug. 8.
