They always say you shouldn't go grocery shopping when you're hungry, but if you're heading to the Wegmans on Tilghman Street in Allentown, it might be a good idea.
A full service restaurant and bar inside the store made its debut for lunch Wednesday.
"We had a group of about 15 people waiting to come in," said Jackie Decloe, the restaurant's manager. "So, it was pretty exciting."
The new pub is part of a recent expansion at the grocery store that took about a year to complete.
"I didn't think it would be anything like this because it was all hidden," said customer Mary Jane Kloss. "So, you didn't know what it was gonna look like."
The Pub at Wegmans is a full-service restaurant and bar that can seat about 130 people. Guests have the option of dining at the large wrap around bar, one of the high-top tables, or back in a more private dining room. This is the fourth Pub at Wegmans in the state, but the only one in the Lehigh Valley.
"I said I gotta be here on the very first day," said Joe Kloss with a smile. "I love the decor. It's really cool."
Menu items use ingredients sold in the store. You can watch the chef cook up soups, salads, sandwiches, pizzas and wide range of entrees in the restaurant's open kitchen.
"We're having fun back there, and we want the customers to be a part of that," added executive chef Geno Nosenzo.
The pub is open seven days a week.
