UPPER MT. BETHEL, Pa. -

A Northampton County man has been formally charged weeks after police say he drunkenly attacked a woman with a piece of heavy machinery.

Officials say Donald Riley, 62, of Upper Mt. Bethel Township, has been charged with assault, harassment and reckless endangerment.

Police say on March 8, Riley went to a home in the 1800 block of Potomac Street in Upper Mt. Bethel Township to get a pickup truck.

Police say Riley was trying to remove the truck when he got it stuck in the snow.

Officials say he left the property and returned with a front end loader to try to dig the truck out.

Police say Beverly Biasi, 73, Riley's ex-girlfriend's mother, tried to stop him from using the front end loader because she said he appeared to be intoxicated.

That's when police say Riley drove the front end loader directly at Biasi, striking her with the bucket and pinning her to the ground.

Police say Riley removed the bucket when his ex-girlfriend called 911.

Biasi suffered minor injuries.

She told 69 News what happened to her was traumatic and she thought she would die.

She also said her daughter and Riley are back together.
