Multiple sclerosis: Using marijuana or some of the chemicals in the plant may help prevent muscle spasms, pain, tremors and stiffness, according to early-stage, mostly observational studies involving animals, lab tests and a small number of human patients. The downside -- it may impair memory, according to a small study involving 20 patients.

Police discovered three kinds of drugs and several items of drug paraphernalia during a raid of a home in Northampton County, officials said.

Denise D. Brown was arrested when she returned to her home at 959 Ramblewood Lane, Freemansburg, after members of the Northampton County Drug Task Force found marijuana, hashish and cocaine while executing a warrant to search the residence at 2 p.m. Thursday, officials said.

Officers found 43 bags of pot, three bags of hash and several bags of cocaine, as well as scales, vacuum sealing machines, sandwich bags, glass smoking pipes and cigar wrappers, officials said.

Brown, 58, was arraigned on charges of drug possession, possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $75,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. May 3.
