Restaurants in Hotel Bethlehem now are serving 10 flavors of ice cream from the Creamery at Pennsylvania State University in State College.
And you can even get it to go.
The hotel "is helping Penn State fans, alumni, students, and just about anyone else with a sweet tooth, satisfy their cravings for the many flavors of the university’s famous ice cream." said spokeswoman Tracey Werner.
"The flavorful offerings also include between one and three flavors-of-the-month and limited-run flavors. Current specialty flavors include Pumpkin Pie and Alumni Swirl."
The hotel is at 437 Main St. in downtown Bethlehem.
The ice cream is available in sugar cones, waffle cones or waffle bowls. To place an order, customers can visit the hostess stand in the lobby and get their ice cream to go, or they can choose to dine in one of the restaurants.
Prices are $2 for one scoop; $4 for two scoops; $6 for three scoops; and an additional $1 for the waffle cones.
Considering the area’s strong fan base of Penn State alumni and students, as well as its satellite campus, Hotel Bethlehem’s food and beverage management staff approached Penn State’s Creamery about selling the ice cream in the Lehigh Valley, explained Werner.
"Each week a new delivery of ice cream is made to the hotel, with the most popular flavors selling out quickly, especially on special event weekends."
According to the university, the Creamery -- now officially called Berkery Creamery -- is the largest university creamery in the nation.
Each year, about 4.5 million pounds of milk pass through the creamery's stainless steel holding tanks, with about half coming from a 225-cow herd at the university's Dairy Production Research Center, and the rest being purchased from an independent milk producer.
