EMMAUS, Pa. -

A pedestrian was struck by a freight train Friday afternoon not far from the Harrison Street crossing in Emmaus, Lehigh County.

A 69 News crew on the scene report the individual was killed.

Dave Pidgeon of Norfolk Southern reported the westbound train struck an unidentified pedestrian who was on the tracks at 2:05 p.m.

Police were still investigating on the scene 90 minutes after the accident, but the train was gone. There was no official word on the fate or identity of the victim by Friday evening.

The train, which stopped after hitting the person, consisted of three locomotives, 56 loads and 49 empty cars, reported Pidgeon. He said the track speed limit in that area is 50 mph, but did not know how fast the train was going.
