Pair charged in camper battery burglary spree

Authorities in Northampton County have arrested two people they say are responsible for stealing at least 15 batteries worth $125 each.

On Friday, Bushkill Twp. police arrested 37-year-old Carl E. Klinger and 24-year-old Felicia M. Davies, both of the 200 block of West Greenwich Street in Bethlehem.

The two are accused of stealing 12 volt RV or camper batteries in 15 separate incidents in the township since the beginning of September.

Police say they suspect there have been several other battery thefts that went unreported.

A witness led police to the pair on Friday. The witness watched a black sedan parked near a camper at a residence in the 300 block of Kromer Road, and saw a battery being removed from the camper and placed in the car.

Bushkill Police alerted neighboring police departments with a description of the car and suspects, and Nazareth police located the car on North Broad Street in Nazareth.

Both occupants ran away from the car but were caught by police.

“This arrest was possible because a witness observed suspicious activity as it was happening and called 911 right away. All citizens are urged to report any suspicious activity right away, as it may accelerate an arrest and prevent further thefts or illegal activity from occurring,” said Bushkill Twp. Police Corporal Scott Dempsey.

Klinger was sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Davies was sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $7,500 bail.

Anyone who had a battery stolen from a camper or RV and didn't report it is asked to call Bushkill Twp. police or their local police department to report the theft.
