Cedar Crest Boulevard north of Allentown will be closed for one month, beginning July 8.
The road will be closed to repair the bridge over Jordan Creek in South Whitehall Township, announced the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Wednesday.
The bridge is located between Ritter Road and Iron Bridge Road.
Traffic will be detoured onto Walbert Avenue, Route 309 and Orefield Road.
That section of Cedar Crest Boulevard has an average daily traffic volume of 11,975 vehicles, according to PennDOT.
Weather permitting, the work will be completed by Aug. 7.
Work includes repairing and repaving the bridge deck as well as repairing expansion joints and bearings.
Motorists should expect delays and use caution driving through the detour area, advise PennDOT officials.
The Cedar Creek Boulevard Bridge over Jordan Creek was built in 1957 and rehabilitated in 1976.
The two-span, steel I-beam bridge is a 122 feet long, 28 feet wide.
