Officials: Man rams police cars

An eastern New Jersey man was nabbed in Northampton County after leading police on a car chase through Phillipsburg and Easton, authorities said.

Easton police said the pursuit started in New Jersey Saturday when 22-year-old Tyree Johnson of East Orange fled from Phillipsburg police in his car.

Police said they temporarily called off the pursuit due to concerns over Johnson driving dangerously as he crossed into Easton.

Johnson's vehicle was then located in the parking lot of the Quality Inn on South 3rd Street around 2 p.m. That's when Johnson resisted arrested and started to drive off, police said.

Johnson rammed into two Easton police vehicles before being caught. As he was being taken into custody, Johnson was found to be in possession of 52 bags of heroin, according to police.

Johnson is facing a slew of charges, including aggravated assault on police officers, resisting arrest and heroin possession.

He is currently being held at Northampton County Prison.
