A woman and her daughter were caught shoplifting $175.88 in clothing from a department store, officials said.

Susan E. Austin and her daughter, Samantha E. Kerlin, were stopped with the stolen merchandise in the parking lot of the Kohl's store at 3768 Easton-Nazareth Highway, Lower Nazareth Twp., Northampton Co., around 2:15 p.m. Friday, officials said.

Store security observed the women selecting and concealing the merchandise, and after they were searched, police found the stolen items in Austin's purse, officials said.

Austin, 45, and Kerlin, 21, both of 118 S. 14th St., Easton, were both arraigned on charges of retail theft and conspiracy and each was released on $5,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing for both women is set for  9 a.m. May 6.
