Mindy Mohamed of Whitehall Township has won the 2013 Miss Arab USA competition.
The 24-year-old was one of 16 women from all over the United States who competed for the title on Aug. 31 at Talking Stick Resort & Casino in Scottsdale, AZ.
The pageant showcases young women of Arab descent as leaders and vital partners in the development of world views. It also celebrates Arab cultural heritage in the United States.
A native of Providence, R.I., Mohamed is a 2007 graduate of Dieruff High School in Allentown. She spent time living in Alexandria, Egypt, where she learned to read, write and speak Arabic. She also speaks French and Spanish.
Pageant organizers report Mohamed has received numerous awards for being active in various community events especially her work with MS and cancer research. In addition to Arabic, she speaks French, English, and Spanish. Mindy’s hobbies include dancing, listening to a variety of music and travellng internationally.
She is pursuing a telecommunication engineering degree at Lehigh-Carbon Community College and is on the dean’s list, currently holding a 3.75 GPA.
