A man who said he was "play fighting" with his girlfriend injured her with blows real enough to send her to the hospital, officials said.
Johnny Cordero, also known as Carlos Bell, punched his girlfriend in the face and head several times and threw her around the kitchen while grabbing her by the hair at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday in their home in the 500 block of East 12th Street in Northampton, Northampton Co., officials said.
Police found the woman holding ice to the side and back of her head, and before she was taken to the hospital, she told them that she and Cordero had been arguing over his drinking, officials said.
Cordero, who police said had been drinking, called the incident "play fighting" and claimed he was only "playing" when he hit the woman he referred to as "wifey," officials said.
Cordero, 35, was arraigned on an assault charge and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $15,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. July 12.
