PLAINFIELD TWP., Pa. -

A man was stoned when he attacked a co-worker at a masonry manufacturer after threatening to entomb him in a pit where they worked together, officials said.

Joseph E. Schiavone punched Scott Brown in the face and head several times after telling Brown he was going to bury him in a pit at the Techo-Bloc plant at 852 West Pennsylvania Ave., Plainfield Township, Northampton Co., at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, officials said.

Brown told police about the incident at Techo-Bloc, which manufactures of landscape and masonry paving stones, about two hours later, after flagging down officers in the parking lot of a Pen Argyl convenience store, officials said.

Brown said that after he was attacked by Schiavone, who had showed up to work drunk, he went home and was taken to the hospital by a family member, officials noted.

Brown was treated for a gash on the top of his head that required staples to close, a fat lip, a large bruise on his forehead and several cuts on his face, officials said.

Schiavone appeared to be drunk when he was arrested about at about 5 a.m. at Techo-Bloc, officials said.

Schiavone, 38, of 109 B St., Pen Argyl, was arraigned on charges of aggravated and simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $30,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Nov. 12.
