A man slammed his wife's face into a basement floor and then knocked her out during an altercation that began as an argument over her age.
Julio C. Abarca attacked his wife while they were watching TV in the basement of their home in the 1000 block of Crawford Street in Bethlehem at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, officials said.
After the two began arguing over her age, Abarca allegedly hit her in the face and continued to slam her head into the floor until she was able to get him to stop by scratching his face.
Abarca then kicked his wife in the leg, before going upstairs, grabbing her car keys, throwing them on the ground and stomping on them to damage them, officials said.
After Abarca's wife hit him on the head with a beer bottle, he knocked her out with a punch. When she regained consciousness and tried to get her keys away from Abarca, he shoved her to the ground and left.
Abarca's wife reported the assault on Monday. Officials did not reveal her age.
Abarca, 46, was arraigned on assault and harassment charges and released on $5,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 3.
