A man disregarded a protection from abuse order and assaulted a woman and injured an infant she was holding about three weeks ago, officials said.

Richard D. Altemos hurt the infant by punching the child's mother in the arms and face and shoving her to the floor while the child was in her arms around 6:30 p.m. July 5 in a home in the 100 block of South Broad Street in Nazareth, Northampton Co., officials said.

Court papers do say how badly the infant was hurt, or what the relationship is between Altemos, the child and the woman.

The woman suffered a concussion from Altemos' blow to her face, and Altemos also destroyed a safe trying to retrieve items owned by the woman, officials noted.

Altemos violated a protection from abuse order by entering the home, they added.

Altemos, 31, of 849 Milton St., Easton, was arraigned Wednesday evening on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, assault, theft and criminal mischief and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $15,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. Aug. 2.
