A man is claiming he broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment to search for "important documents," even though his ex says he never lived there, officials said.
Walter G. Rosario told police he was retrieving "important documents" such as his birth certificate and high school diploma when he was found inside his ex's apartment in the 1000 block of Mechanic Street in Bethlehem around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday.
The ex told police she and Rosario had not been together for the last six months, and that he never lived in the apartment.
Rosario pushed his way into the apartment past his ex and her friend after he used a screwdriver to damage a $25 door lock, officials said, adding that the screwdriver was found outside the apartment door.
Rosario, 21, of 2 East Emmaus Ave., Allentown, was arraigned on charges of criminal trespass, criminal mischief and possessing an instrument of crime and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. July 23.
