Macungie Borough Council unanimously accepted Mayor Rick Hoffman’s resignation at Monday’s meeting.
Hoffman sent a letter of resignation to the borough on June 28, explaining he purchased a farm out-of-state and would be moving. His term is not set to expire until the end of the year.
When asked to comment on the resignation, Council President Chris Becker indicated council knew Hoffman was looking for property and expected his departure.
Council has 30 days to appoint an interim mayor to serve the balance of Hoffman’s term.
Macungie residents will elect a new mayor in November.
Council is asking potential candidates to send a letter of interest to Borough Hall by noon on July 11.
