Georges Bensimhon
CLEVELAND -

A doctor from Lehigh County pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony assault charge in an attack on his son-in-law in Cleveland, Ohio.

In exchange for the plea, officials dropped an attempted murder charge against Dr. Georges Bensimhon of South Whitehall Twp.

Police said Bensimhon drove all the way to Cleveland, hid in his son-in-law's yard, and waited to attack him with a crowbar back in September.

Officials said they found spinal needles in Bensimhon's backpack.

The son-in-law, Allan Hoffer, and Benshimhon's daughter were in the midst of a nasty divorce, according to police.

Bensimhon, 66, has been a doctor for three decades, most recently working as an anesthesiologist for Coordinated Health. A Coordinated spokesman said he was fired.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 24. Bensimhon will remain free on bail until the sentencing but he's electronically monitored with limited places he can go.

He faces up to eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
