BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A man attacked two police officers, punching one of them and trying to hit the other with a metal bar, while they were investigating a domestic disturbance, officials said.

Jason DeSentis cut the lower lip of Ofc. James G. Freed when he socked him in the mouth as Freed tried to handcuff him, shortly after he ran at Ofc. William Marques with a long white door safety bar, police said.

The attack took place at an apartment in the 600 block of Hayes Street in Bethlehem around 7 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Ofc. Marques knocked the bar out of DeSentis' hands, officials added.

DeSentis broke down the door of the second-floor apartment to get at the woman he shares it with, telling her, "I'll kill you if you get a PFA [protection from abuse order]."

DeSentis' name is not on the lease of the apartment, officials noted.

DeSentis, 36, was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, making terroristic threats and burglary and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. June 28.
