A man who snatched two perfume bottles from his wife's dresser assaulted her when she tried to get them back after an argument last week, officials said.

German Vargas put his arm around his wife's neck while the two were quarreling over the perfume bottles in their home in the 1100 block of Fritz Drive in Bethlehem at 10:30 p.m. June 25 and told her, "If I wanted to choke you, I could, but I'm not going to."

Vargas attacked his wife when she tried to retrieve the bottles he took from her dresser after she told him to go downstairs so she could watch TV, officials said.

Vargas' wife bit her husband's upper right arm to make him let her go and he hit her in the face when she tried to take his house keys away from him before he ran out the door, officials added.

Vargas, 40, was arraigned Tuesday night on charges of making terroristic threats, assault and harassment and released on $5,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. July 12.
