A Lehigh County resident was appointed to a two year term on the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission's Consumer Advisory Council (CAC) Wednesday.
Javier R. Toro, of Fountain Hill, was chosen by State Senator Lisa Boscola for the position. Boscola, serving the Democratic chair of the state Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee, has been a strong advocate for infrastructure upgrade, company preparedness and response reforms, and ratepayer protection.
As part of the 13-member CAC team, Toro will help advise the state Public Utility Commission on matters relating to the protection of consumer interests that fall under the commission's jurisdiction. The CAC meets bi-monthly in Harrisburg. Members serve without compensation.
Currently, Toro serves as the customer care supervisor for the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley's Energy Department. Toro said he plans to work hard in order to follow Boscola's path of enhancing the lives of community members.
Residing in the Lehigh Valley region for the past 19 years, Toro is also an active member of the Bethlehem Coalition for Quality Education, South Side Initiative, and the South Bethlehem Historical Society. For his dedication and commitment in service, Toro was the recipient of Lehigh University's "Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr., Award."
Toro said, "I am honored to receive this appointment and looking forward to serving the commission…I hope to extend my work and advocacy for consumers from the Bethlehem region statewide."
