Getting rid of an old purse is likely to cost one former Northampton County resident, officials said.

Witnesses reported seeing a suspicious package thrown from a car near 7th and Northampton streets in Easton on Wednesday, police said.

The package was determined to be a purse, but because of its suspicious nature, police shut down several blocks around the area and called in the Bethlehem police bomb squad.

Through surveillance cameras, officials came up with a description of the car. The passenger was identified as Yolanda Santana.

Santana, 21, of New York City, formerly of Easton, told police she tossed the purse out of the car window after she bought a new one.

Since there was no intent to cause alarm, Santana was cited for scattering rubbish, police said.

Police will also be seeking restitution for the costs associated with the response from the fire department and bomb squad.
