Scoobie fire officially an arson, club will not re-open

A fire Wednesday at a local strip club was the result of arson, officials said.

Fire department officials told 69 News on Thursday that the fire at Scoobies Gentlemen's Club early Wednesday was intentionally set.

Officials said the club, located in the 2300 block of Hanover Avenue, on the border between Allentown and Bethlehem, sustained damage to the first floor and extensive smoke damage throughout the building.

Damage was estimated at $30,000.

Allentown police are handling the investigation.

There are no suspects named so far.

Allentown police said the club had been closed voluntarily for the past six weeks.

Officials also said the club had several curfew violations, since according to zoning laws, adult social establishments are only allowed to be open until midnight.

Tyree Wimberly was shot to death outside the club on Jan. 26, police said.

Neighbors then began circulating a petition in February, trying to get the club labeled as a nuisance.

Officials issued a federal warrant Wednesday for Ulysses Rodriguez, who's a suspect in the Wimberly shooting case.

Family and friends of Wimberly held a vigil in Allentown Wednesday night, which would have been his 22nd birthday.
