A 27-year-old homeless man who robbed an Emmaus bank late Thursday morning was captured within 10 minutes.
At 11:33 a.m. Thursday, Michael Todd Stilo entered the Santander Bank at Chestnut Street and Cedar Crest Boulevard.
He ordered a teller to fill a plastic bag with money and warned her he would count down from 30 in his head. As the teller put money into the bag, he told her that she only had 10 second left. He then said her time was up and demanded the bag.
The unidentified teller later told police she feared for her safety when the defendant's countdown ended.
A previous police report referred to the crime as an armed robbery but no weapon is mentioned in the criminal complaint against Stilo.
He left the rear of the bank on foot and headed north into the Meadows Apartment complex.
The clothing, dark-colored mask and sunglasses matching the description of the suspect were found in the area where he fled.
At 11:43 a.m., the defendant was taken into custody by Emmaus police at Cedar Crest and Pine Street, about two blocks north of the bank.
Stilo had $1,873 in his pocket -- exactly the same amount of money stolen from the bank. That money included what law enforcement officials called "distinguishable currency."
Stilo faces charges of robbery with a threat of serious injury, robbery of a financial institution, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
After being arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Donna Butler in Emmaus, he was committed to Lehigh County Prison.
Bail was set at $300,000.
This is the second time Stilo has been arrested for robbing a bank.
He was on parole for a March 16, 2012, robbery of the TD Bank in the 1800 block of Tilghman Street in Allentown. That time he was arrested four days later in the city.
Stilo was released from jail on Nov. 11.
