Drinks may soon be flowing at the township’s pavilion

Picnics, parties and reunions at one Northampton County township’s pavilion might be a little livelier this summer.
The supervisors Tuesday night told their solicitor to rewrite the Moore Township ordinance that bans alcohol from the pavilion.
The supervisors said they are ready to approve the new rules once the old ordinance is amended, possibly at the next meeting on July 1, just in time for Fourth of July celebrations.
“I see the pros and cons,” said chairman David Tashner Sr. “I’d be willing to try it. If it ends up causing problems, we’ll ban it.”
He said alcohol permits would be approved only to people who rent the pavilion at the recreation center between Monocacy Drive and English Road.
The pavilion can be rented for $125.
In other action, the supervisors agreed to spend $1,200 for an appraisal of Sunny Slope Farms, a proposed 35-home subdivision that is for sale.
The supervisors said they are interested in buying the 45-acre property and preserving it from development by placing it into the farmland preservation program.
The township would have the option of renting plots out to farmers.
The asking price for the property is $850,000 and the supervisors said they would only be able to offer the amount of the appraisal.
“Preventing it from turning into a subdivision would be awesome,” Tashner said.
