EASTON, Pa. -

A Northampton County Sheriff's Deputy waived his right to a preliminary hearing this morning.

Darin Steward, 45, was charged in April with illegally disseminating information and obstruction of justice. Authorities said he gave a copy of a gun license application to a city councilwoman.

The Express-Times previously reported that, according to attorney Richard Orloski Sr.,  the gun application belonged to Tricia Mezzacappa, who was running for West Easton Council and Northampton County Council when the charges came to light. Orloski told the paper he received a copy of the application with an anonymous letter.

Steward was suspended without pay when the charges were filed. Steward's formal arraignment is scheduled for July 23rd.
